The Alberto Benveniste Center of the EPHE is a member of the consortium of the Euro-Festival project – Art Festivals and the European Public Culture.

This project is one of the first projects launched – in 2008 – under the social science theme of the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Communities (Grant agreement n° 215747). It is carried out by a team of four research institutes in Austria (Interdisciplinary Centre for Comparative Research in the Social Sciences, Vienna), the UK (University of Sussex), Italy (Fondazione di Ricerca Istituto Carlo Cattaneo) – and France (Alberto Benveniste Center, EPHE).

The overall aim of the project is to analyze the way in which mixed – or single – arts festivals constitute sites of cultural expression and performance of relevance for European identity-in-the-making and for the European public sphere.
